Kihachijo (DSN, DVDM). 黄八丈, Ki-Hachijō, means "Yellow Silk", referring in this case to the famous Hachijō Silk (八丈織 - Hachijō-ori) from the Island of Hachijō. This silk has a venerable history, perhaps as long as a millenium, and strict rules about its fabrication and dying. Because it is a place-name, Hachijō must be capitalized. (ED)
Ki hachijo is a green upright with striking lime green new growth. Its leaves have a distinctive double serration and the bark is a clear green with white streaking. Ki hachijo is grown for its fall color, which is an excellent blend of yellow, orange, and red. (Hachijo Island) (DSN, as Kihachijo)
