暗部山, Kurabu-yama, is a non-standard (by today's standards) reading of "Anbu-yama." Still, we may take the metaphorical meaning of "Dark Mountain" as a valid translation. (ED)
Kurabu yama is a vigorous green upright known for its excellent yellow, orange, and red fall color. The spring growth is flushed with red, soon changing to a deep green. Kurabu yama grows to be wider than it is tall at about 14'. (DSN, as Kurabuyama) It must be noted that the DSN description differs from Yano, who describes the summer foliage as "red-brown", with yellow autumn colors. It is possible that the American and Japanese cultivars with this name have diverged. (ED)
