近江錦, Ōmi-nishiki means Brocade of Ōmi." Ōmi was a historical province, now part of Shiga Prefecture around Lake Biwa. The area was known for its high-quality textiles, particularly in hemp, and for its natural beauty. The Checklist 1st ed. incorrectly omitted the macron. (ED)
