Formerly 'Tsuki kage nishiki'

The International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP) establishes the rules and regulations for proper naming of plants. When different, the cultivar database displays the correct(ed) ICNCP name, rather than its previous cultivar name.

月影錦, Tsukikage-nishiki, means "Moonlight Brocade." Note that "tsukikage", 月影, is a single compound word and so not hyphenated. It is a fitting name for this shirasawanum, with a light yellow-green, like moonlight, taking over parts of leaves. As usual with this kind of variegation, the yellow parts are smaller, so that the leaves often exhibit a curious and interesting shape. (ED)
