男鬼山, with a Hiragana reading of おうりさん is therefore Ōri-san, meaning "Ogre Man Mountain." It is a hiking area in Shiba, where the seedling was found. The meaning of the name is obscure. The Oni 鬼 are powerful spirits, sometimes protectors and sometimes malevolent, assciated with mountains or wildernesses. This "Male Oni" might be from a local legend, or even a rock formation. (ED)
