宮殿, Kyūden means "Palatial Mansion" (lit. palace), an incongruous name for this bushy green dwarf which Yano describes as being a "malformed cultivar." Perhaps in 1975, the name was considered an amusing irony. Note that the rōmaji "kyūden" is specifically unhyphenated in Kenkyusha 4th ed. (ED)
