相模原錦, Sagamihara-nishiki, means "Brocade of Sagamihara." A touristic city in Kanagawa Prefecture, Sagamihara, with its mild and clement climate, has been settled since ancient Japan. During the Kumakura period (1192) it was home to the Yokoyama warrior clan. Today it is an important urban area, but also well known for its scenic hills and pristine rivers, cherry blossoms, and Lake Sagami, created from the damming of the Sagami River in 1947. (ED)
