ICNCP Name: 'Yamato-kujaku'

Formerly 'Yamato kujaku'

The International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP) establishes the rules and regulations for proper naming of plants. When different, the cultivar database displays the correct(ed) ICNCP name, rather than its previous cultivar name.

大和孔雀, Yamato-kujaku, means "Japan's Peacock." It is a selected seedling of what the Japanese refer to as 'Mai-kujaku', the Dancing Peacock. Much to Japanese chagrin, Mai-kujaku (of Japanese origin) was listed first as 'Aconitifolium', which now and forever takes precedence in our Western annals, including at the Maple Society, which holds the position for the registration of all maple cultivars. This, then, is a truly Japanese version.

Date of Origin if known:

1991
