Formerly 'Kôyamadani nishiki'

The International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP) establishes the rules and regulations for proper naming of plants. When different, the cultivar database displays the correct(ed) ICNCP name, rather than its previous cultivar name.

向山谷錦, Kōyamadani-nishiki means "Brocade of Kōyamadani". It is a clear place-name, meaning "Facing the Mountain Valley." The 'd' in dani is a rendaku, conconant modification, tor 't', thus tani=valley. (ED) [MrMaple, as Koyamadani nishiki, calls it the "Snowflake Maple", but this appears only to be a marketing term.]

Kôyamandari nishiki is a small palmatum with interesting foliage. Leaves are leathery, wider at leaf lobe tip than at center. Not much is known about this variety, but it probably will be a larger bush form. Fall color is yellow. (DSN, as Koamandari nishiki)
