花泉錦, Kasen-nishiki, means "Kasen's Brocade". The literal meaning of Kasen means "Spring Flowers". Kasen may possibly be used as a personal name here, but more likely as an alternate to Hanaizumi, a region in Iwate Prefecture. Indeed, this maple has been known as Hana-izumi-nishiki (ED)

Kasen nishiki is a variegated upright similar to Orido nishiki, but with a more subtle variegation. This variegation is more irregular, with both sickle shaped markings and spots in pastel pinks and creams. Kasen nishiki will form a small bushy tree approximately 12'. (DSN)
