黄秋山, Ki-shū-zan as Nakajima has it is a curious bit of naming. The kanji is logically "Yellow Autumn Mountain", but while the first character 黄, ki = yellow is a standard Japanese reading, the second 秋 is given an on'yomi, or Chinese reading, shū. Zan ia the rendaku (consont change due to an unvoiced consonant) of "san", the on'yomi Chinese reading of 山. So we have a mixed Japanese and Chinese reading of the epithet, in this case a yutō-yomi, because the first character is read in Japanese, the others in Chinese. The division of the epithet remains somewhat obscure, but to best follow ICNCP rules for clarity, all words are separated. (ED)

It is Palmatum Group, from 1984, selected in Chiba Prefecture. The early spring leaf is green, and later brown leaf-tips appear, before fading. Autumn color is reds and yellows. (ED)
