金欄, Kin-ran, does indeed mean "Woven with Golden Threads", and so it appears as a plant. Contrary to the DSN description, it keeps a good red flush (or at least some versions do) even in shade. Lit. Kin = Golden, Ran = Fine Weave. (ED)

Kinran is a red upright with leaves fading to green. It has an orange-red second growth which contrasts with the deep green of the mature leaves. Kinran is a beautiful gold with crimson overtone colors in the fall. The tree form is as wide as it is tall, about 15'. (Woven with golden strings) (DSN)
