(kinshii, Hilliers) 錦糸, Kin-shi, does not use the "kin" meanin "gold", that character is 金. Here we have 錦, usually pronounced "nishiki" but sometimes "kin", e.g. Kin-pai. Here, Kin-shi means "Threaded Brocade", not "With Golden Threads" as given in Vertrees/Gregory 4th ed. (ED)

Kinshi is a green dwarf palmatum with thin, strap-like leaves. It is a similar plant to Koto no ito, but its summer foliage is a deeper green. The fall foliage is a bright orange. It will grow to around 8' at maturity. (DSN)
