駒止, Komadome, means "Hitching Post" (lit. place where horses stop), and refers to the famous Komadome Falls, 駒止の滝, a well known tourist attraction in Tochigi Prefecture. The name morphs in it's written form from the original 1711 introduction of Komatodomi, but the meaning never strays far from the falls, or the "Hitching Post" translation. 駒駐 (Komatome 1711), becomes 駒留, (Komadome 1730) becomes finally 駒止, the modern writing for komadome, in 1891.
