Koto hime (Esveld) 琴姫 means Koto Princess, suggesting a Princess skilled in playing the Koto, a traditional Japanese stringed instrument. Vertrees/Gregory 4th ed. incorrectly translates Koto as "old harp". (ED)

Kotohime is a dwarf palmatum with tiny leaves. The new foliage is reddish orange quickly fading to a medium green. Leaves are even smaller than the related Goshiki kotohime. Mature height probably will be under 4'. Fall color is dark red. (DSN)
