伯母谷川, Obadani-gawa means "Obatani River". Google renders this "Obatani" without the rendaku on 谷=tani, valley. There is another rendaku for kawa becoming gawa. Obadani has a nice familiar feel, "Auntie's Valley." "Obasan", Auntie, is a respectful way to address older, well known and respected community members, just as we might say "Auntie" in similar circumstances in both Western, African and Eastern cultures.
