西南院 右近, Sainan-in-ukon, it means "the Right-Side Guard at Sainan-in", perhaps selected from the gardens at Seinan-in, the "South-West Temple", a temple part of the larger Kaima-dera in Katsuragi, Nara Prefecture. The temple may date from as early as the 7th century CE, although formal records only exist starting in the 12th. This ukon has no relation to the famous earlier maple 'Ukon', spelled 鬱金 and meaning "Turmeric." Note, the Checklist 1st ed. incorrectly trascribed the name 'Ukon' as 'Yukon.' (ED)
