The International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP) establishes the rules and regulations for proper naming of plants. When different, the cultivar database displays the correct(ed) ICNCP name, rather than its previous cultivar name.

桜姫, Sakura-hime means "Cherry Blossom Princess." Yano lists this under Izu no odoriko, with Sakura-hime as a synonym, but we have retained Gregory's evaluation. (ED)

Leaves emerge bright red, soon turning to pink with small green patches near the veins, later white with pink edges along the lobes. Because of the lack of chlorophyl the leaves die until August. The plant may require special cultural practices, like leaving branches on the rootstock, in order to survive. (ED)
