漣波, Sazanami, means "Ripples of Waves." Although having a first character that means "wave ripples" and a second that means "Waves" seems quite redundant to our Western thinking, it's actually a standard Japanese poetic device, to emphasize the wave nature specifically. (ED)
Sazanami is a wide-growing green palmatum with flowing branches, giving image to its name: the tidal wave. The new growth is red-orange, and it has an excellent deep red fall color. (DSN)
