清玄, Seigen, is a personal name, notably the name of a buddhist priest in the Noh play Seigan Kazura, probably 15th century but of distputed authorship. Tje name itself may be taken to mean "Pure Mystery." (ED)

Seigen is a slow growing upright bush to about 8'. Crimson new growth fades to a mottled green in summer. It is probably the original name for plant A. palmatum Bonfire. It is a California favorite. Fall color is fire engine red. (DSN)
