ICNCP Name: 'Shin-chi-shio'
Formerly 'Shin chishio'
The International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP) establishes the rules and regulations for proper naming of plants. When different, the cultivar database displays the correct(ed) ICNCP name, rather than its previous cultivar name.
Japanese Maple Classification:
Corallinum Group
Hardiness Zone (for guidance only):
5 to 9
Given the spelling of Chi-shio, we can infer 新血汐, Shin-chi-shio, "New Chi-shio" or fully, "New Tide of Blood." This cultivar is often referred to as "Chishio Improved" as the spring color is meant to last longer. There is confusion in the trade, with the same clones being sold under both labels. (ED)
Shin chishio has bright pinkish-red spring color, similar to that of Shin deshojo or Beni maiko. It is more red than pink in spring however, but it does fade to the familiar mottled green. The fall color is a scarlet red. Shin chishio is more upright than Shindeshojo. (DSN, as Shishio Improved)
