Of unknown origin, the spelling looks like a non-compliant romanization of "shōman", but that maple not found. 小満, shōman is a pretty word, meaning "lesser ripening," around may 21, when Spring is in full swing and bloom, but harvest not begun. So "Brocade of late Spring" is pretty cool. (ED)
