ICNCP Name: 'Sonohara'

その原 is the spelling from 1782, and in common with many spellings from this list, it is part kana and part kanji. Looked at as particles, the epithet would translate into "Plain of ?" which doesn't make much sense. However, Sonohara 園原 is a famous place-nam, meaning "Garden Plain." It appears frequently in classical Waka poetry, and is famously part of the second chapter of Murasaki Shikibu's masterwork "The Tale of Genji", where "The Broom Tree" (帚木, Hahakigi) was believed to appear and disappear in Sonohara, symbolizing fleeting love and elusive truth.
