高雄山、Takao-san is another name for Takaoyama, the historic mountain to the northwest of Kyoto. Among the many attractions, spectacular autumn foliage is at the forefront. The temple of Jingo-ji (神護寺) sits on the slopes. This ancient temple, founded in 781 CE, contains sixteen National Treasures of Japan. (See 'Jingo-ji'). For reasons unknown today, the usual rendaku changing san to zan, was not made in 1914.
