七夕, Tanabata, or Star Festival Legend, celebrates the annual reunion of Orihime, the Weaving Princess, and Hikoboshi, the Cowherd Star, on the seventh night of the seventh month. It literally means "Seventh Evening." It is an ancient word, evolving from a Shinto Purification Ritual. It originates even further back, with the Chinese Qixi Festival, introduced into Japan during the Nara Period. Misspelled Tana bota by DVDM. (ED)
