天王寺, Tennō-ji, is an ancient temple in the Yanaka District of Tokyo. Established first in 1274 CE, it houses a famous bronze statue of the Buddha from 1690. Accused of heresy in the late 17th, it reopened as a Tendai Buddhist Temple, and contains a shrine housing the image of Bishamonten, one of the Seven Gods of Fortune. Note also that Tennōji, with the same spelling, is a Ward in Osaka, which houses one of Japan's oldest temple (593 CE), with a connected name: 四天王寺, Shitennō-ji. 天王, Tennō, means "Heavenly King."
