手染の糸, Tezome-no-ito, means "Hand-dyed Thread." Note that this is the published name from 1745 rather than 1711, which omitted the "no" particle. Although this is common practice, we use this version for increased clarity. Note the usual rendaku or internal consonant change that makes "some" into "zome." (ED)
