筑波嶺, Tsukuba-ne, means "Tsukuba Ridge", no doubt in reference to Mount Tsukuba, Ibaraki Prefecture. Note this is the Shōwa Era version of the plant, the older cultivar is no longer in the trade. (Tsukubane, MrMaple). (ED)
Tsukuba ne is a fast-growing upright palmatum. Spring foliage is a purple red, soon changing to green with a blush of red. Fall color is a good orange and red. (Ridge of Mount Tsukuba) (DSN, as Tsukebane)
