ICNCP Name: 'Washi-no-o'

Formerly 'Washi-no-o'

The International Code of Nomenclature for Cultivated Plants (ICNCP) establishes the rules and regulations for proper naming of plants. When different, the cultivar database displays the correct(ed) ICNCP name, rather than its previous cultivar name.

Japanese Maple Classification:
Dissectum Group

Hardiness Zone (for guidance only):

5 to 9
(Washino o, Esveld; Washi no o, MrMaple) While 鷲の尾, Washi-no-o, lit. means "Eagle's Tail," it more naturally and evocatively means "Plumage of an Eagle's Tail." This is not a stretched translation, because when referring to birds, 尾 naturally refers to plumage. (ED)

Washi-no-o (syn. Palmatifidum in the West) is a strongly cascading green laceleaf. The leaves are coarser and less divided than Viridis, but this hardy plant can withstand harsh conditions. Washi no o has excellent yellow and orange fall color. (Eagle tail) (DSN, as Washi no o)
