小富士錦, Kofuji-nishiki, is an Acer rubescens that shares a name with an Acer crataegifolium. There is always a possibility of synonymy, but it seems unlikely here given the morphological differences; more study is needed. The name means "Brocade of Kofuji", Kofuji (or Little Fuji) is a smaller volcanic mountain lying some 10 km east of the famous mountain, and excellent views of Fuji-san may be appreciated from the top of Kofuji.
