葛城, Katsuragi, is a city in Nara Prefecture, southeast of Osaka. It borders on open land to its west, and contains the beautiful Katsuragi-sanroku Park. It was home to th powerful Katsuragi Clan, a family that sometimes rivaled the Yamato Imperial Court in ancient Japan. It was also in antiquity a region of Yamato, and Katsuragi-san was famous in legend as the home of the monk En no Gyōja, a powerful figure who flew as he wished on a five-colored cloud. Among his exploits, he trapped the God of Katsuragi-san, Hitokotonushi in a ravine there, where he remains to this day: a giant boulder tightly twined with Wisteria and other vines. (ED)
