大勇, Taiyū, means "Great Courage." Although it might be defined as two concepts, 大 = Tai (Great), 勇 = yū, (courage/heroism), Kenkyusha 4th ed. specifically defines this as an unhyphenated single compound-noun, so emphasizing the importance of the concept -- central to Bushidō, and implying resolve, steadfastness and both physical and moral courage -- in Japanese culture and history. It is an entirely on'yomi, or Sino Japanese, reading. There is no available description of this maple, no longer available in the trade. (ED)
