竜頭, Ryū-tō means "Dragon's Crown", a very fitting epithet given the morphology of the plant. Tō is the on'yomi (Simo-Japanese) reading of 頭, compared to the kun'yomi (Native Japanede) readings of kashira/atama. 竜頭 is, as Ryōtō, the word for a watch crown, but that meaning seems unlikely here. The Checklist 1st ed. incorrectly omitted the macron on the final ō. (ED)
Ryûto (Ryūzu) is a compact slow growing bush palmatum, holding its leaves on the branch tips. This gives the plant a unique open airy look. The new growth is pink, fading to green. It will grow to about 5' by 5'. Fall's color is a nice orange. (Ornamental dragon head) (DSN, as Ryuzu)
