Scholarships
The Maple Society of North America Scholarship is designed to support individuals pursuing a higher education degree in the field of horticulture, horticultural sciences, forestry, urban forestry, arboriculture, greenhouse or nursery management or a related field.
This scholarship aims to encourage and assist dedicated students in expanding their knowledge, skills, and education, contributing to and fostering a community of knowledgeable horticulturists, foresters, and similar professionals.
Award and Details
$2,000.00 will be awarded to the student who submits the most compelling essay explaining how they chose their field and how this funding will enable them to pursue their educational goals in their selected horticultural, forestry or related field. (See required documentation and style under Application Instructions below. Additionally, the winning applicant’s essay will appear in the Maple Society’s quarterly Newsletter, which is an internationally recognized academic publication. The recipient of the scholarship will not be eligible to apply for another MSNA scholarship following the year of award.
Eligibility
Applications are open to all students residing in North America, including Canada and Mexico, who are or will be beginning their junior, senior or post-graduate year of study, majoring in horticulture, forestry, arboriculture, or a related field at an accredited baccalaureate-granting institution. Also eligible are post-graduate students currently enrolled in an accredited program leading to a master’s or doctoral degree. Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to the general fields of horticulture or forestry through their academic studies, employment and/or volunteer activities.
Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or higher. They must provide two letters of reference, one from a current academic advisor or professor, and one from a supervisor familiar with the applicant’s job performance or service in a volunteer capacity. The application must also include a brief personal essay on “Why I Chose this Field” [with a description of the chosen field and study emphasis]
Application Instructions
Applications must be completed online by clicking the button below, and must include reference letters as described under "Eligibility" along with current official transcripts. Photocopies of transcripts will suffice.
The applicant’s Personal Statement essay must be at least 750-1,000 words in length, typed in Times New Roman or other plain 12-point font with 1-inch margins all around, and must be fully documented, including a brief Abstract, References page, and appropriate in-text citations following APA style. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
