白神錦, Shirakami-nishiki, refers to the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Shirakami-Sanchi, a large mountainous region across Aomori and Akita Prefectures in Northern Honshu, known for its primeval forests and spectacular momiji. 白神 itself means "Divine Light", but it is the place name that counts here. "Shirakami Brocade" can mean nothing but a description of the fabulous autumn colors in the mountains. (ED)
