(Sumi-nagashi, Hilliers Manual 2014, Suminagashi, DSN). First published in 1923 as 墨流シ, then simplified 7 years later to 墨流, with an unchanged meaning and pronunciation. It means "A Drift of Ink." (ED)

Sumi nagashi is a red upright with leaves similar to Burgundy Lace. It is more upright however and has greener bark. Its most outstanding feature is its bright red seed set that hang like ornaments on a Christmas tree. Its red foliage fades in the summer heat but returns with outstanding taillight red for its fall color. Sumi nagashi is a vigorous grower to 20' in height. (Black ink throw) (DSN, as Suminagashi)
