山折り is compliantly romanized as Yama-ori. The spelling is specifically directed at the art of Ori-gama, paper folding. The name means "Mountain Fold", a technical term where the crease folds upwards, as opposed to a Tani-ori, "Valley Fold", where the crease points downward. It is possble the name comes from the leaf morphology, where, as we sometimes see, the sides hang downwards from the central vein axil, creating a folded shape. (ED)
