we learned so much about root pruning japanese maples from a bonsai expert!
This event was held on Saturday March 9, 2024, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm
Maple Valley, Washington
Anthony Fajarillo is a Bonsai professional who has created ten award winning displays at the Northwest Flower and Garden Festival, is among the few who have had a tree displayed at the Artisan's Cup held at the Portland Art Museum and has served as President of the Puget Sound Bonsai Association.
Anthony provided a comprehensive demonstration about the root pruning techniques that can be applied to any potted maple—whether the goal is to create a Bonsai, or to simply display and keep your tree healthy in a pot of any size. The class was conducted in Anthony's beautiful garden in Maple Valley, where we witnessed first-hand examples of his skills as a landscape designer and consultant.
Recap by Dan Everts, Maple Society Volunteer:
On March 9, 2024, the Maple Society presented a root pruning demonstration hosted by bonsai expert Tony Fajarillo.
Tony has an incredible bonsai collection and beautiful garden setting. We were confident that if anyone could give us good advice on root pruning our container maples, it would be from an expert that can keep an old maple alive with very little root structure.
