Metro Maples in Fort Worth, Texas is a quality grower of Japanese and Chinese (Shantung and Trident) maples.

Founded by Keith Johansson in 1994 and now under the ownership of Scott Hubble, they are home to an extensive inventory of over 15,000 trees on six acres, along with an excellent selection of ginkgo and azaleas in a wide variety of sizes.

What was the inspiration behind starting a nursery?

Keith's original dream was to operate a wholesale nursery specializing in azaleas, which eventually expanded to ornamental maples and ginko trees—including a passion for bonsai—as seen in this video during the Maple Society's annual 2025 Fall Conference in Dallas:

Do you have a special focus?

We focus on maples that will tolerate our difficult climate in Texas. Our motto is "A Maple For Every Spot," because we carry over 100 varieties that come in all sizes and colors—including those that tolerate heat, as well as sunny or shady locations.

What are you particularly proud of?

There are customers who have been visiting Metro Maples for many years. Seeing their trees develop over time is very rewarding.

What sets you apart from other nurseries?

We not only import high quality maples and ginkgo from the Pacific Northwest, but we also propagate and grow thousands of these trees at the nursery, as seen in these two video tours presented by Life of Bonsai:
