Post-conference garden tours on Monday and Tuesday, November 11-12
In and around Valley Forge, Pennsylvania
Join your fellow North American branch members on the east coast this year amidst an area filled with countless breathtaking gardens. In addition to our traditional Saturday night Banquet and Plant Auction, here's what we've got lined up so far:
Featured Speakers:
Bill Thomas, Executive Director of Chanticleer Garden
Billy Schwartz will address the fascinating topic of witches’ brooms (he apprenticed to Dick Wolff, who found and introduced Maple Witches' Broom Shaina to the trades)
Emery Davis, Chair of The Maple Society of Britain and Ireland, will present “The History and Methodology of The Maple Society Cultivar Database”
Jenny Rose Carey, author and lecturer, former director of Ambler Arboretum of Temple University and the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society’s Garden at Meadowbrook Farm, will present “Glorious Shade”
David Elam will present "Climate Change and Maple Growth"
Private Access and Tours:
Chanticleer Garden (private after-hours tour with staff on hand for questions)
Ed and Debbie Shinn’s magnificent garden (and another link to their garden)
Morris Arboretum and Gardens at the University of Pennsylvania
Two private gardens in the vicinity
Post-Conference tour:
After the conference, we'll spend two full days exploring additional gardens in the Philadelphia area, including Winterthur, Longwood, and arboretums such as Tyler, Barnes and Haverford... and perhaps some local nurseries too!
There is no additional fee to join this tour—outside of meals and garden admissions, which will be your own responsibility (if you have an AHS or equivalent reciprocal gardens card, be sure to bring it to save on garden admission fees).
However we do require an RVSP including your transportation preference: whether you prefer to drive your own car, or are interested in doing a shared ride in a group van. This RSVP link is included in the main Conference Registration link below.
early-bird registration is now open!
The registration fee includes all conference presentations, activities, three lunches (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), and two dinners (Friday and Saturday evening); the conference hotel offers complimentary breakfast. Hotel registration is separate (see below).
REGISTRATION COST: $495 per person
Conference Hotel:
888 Chesterbrook Blvd
Wayne, PA 19087
Whether you're coming just for the conference, or planning to stay afterwards for the post-conference garden tours, you'll only need to unpack once, thanks to this hotel's convenient location amidst a plethora of beautiful gardens.
If flying into Philadelphia, you will need a rental car or ride service to get to Embassy Suites. Parking at the hotel is free.
Plan to arrive early for our Thursday evening meet and greet at the hotel on November 7; guests of the Embassy Suites enjoy complimentary drinks and snacks during the 5:00-6:00 manager’s reception (which you can participate in every evening we're there).
For those who aren't attending the Post-Conference Tour and want to fly home Sunday evening, we plan to return to the Embassy Suites by mid-afternoon on Sunday.
RESERVE YOUR ROOM BEFORE OCTOBER 17: The hotel is holding rooms for "Maple Society Conference Attendees" until this date.
PLANNING TO JOIN THE POST-CONFERENCE TOUR? Be sure to extend your room reservations for three nights—Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday (November 10-12)—as we expect Tuesday to be a full day.
